Sarocca Park has changed a lot in the past 15 years. The big staircase with the long handrails that leads to the new development of single-family homes used to be a spot where local teenagers would go to jump their BMX bikes. There would be 10-20 kids all there just having fun and looking out for each other. It was a private spot right in the middle of town! At the top of the stairs now you will find No Trespassing signs and sprinklers watering the green grass that surrounds the new development. These same developments have also blocked access to what used to be the best winter sledding hills in town. To give credit to the city, they did keep the old baseball sandlot intact, complete with the old cement bleachers that look over the park. When you enter the park from Frederick Street you almost can hear the old Green Bay Packer players who used to practice here in 1935. The park still has an old-time look and feel which I hope the city protects in the future.

A hidden gem of a park in Rhinelander!
